February is for Flirts

And so we begin! Contracts were drafted and signed and Kyle graciously allowed me to pick up Bandit for health testing while we waited on Willow to come into season.

Bandit was first taken for his OFA Prelim Hip and Elbows, his pennhips and dentition. The results were as follows:

OFA Prelim Hips Good

OFA Prelim Elbows Normal

Pennhip LDI .26 RDI .24 (tightest 10% for the breed)

Full Dentition

Afterward I had his dna swabbed and sent out. We already new he was clear by parentage for all the major eye diseases so this was more just for general information. One concern I had was the potential for him to carry long hair (Lh). Since willow is also a carrier there would be the unfortunate but small chance for “fluffy” (Lh/Lh) cattle dogs if he were to also be. I am relieved and excited to report his results came back as Sh/Sh, no chance of anything fluffy being produced thank goodness. Once we had his results back and verified everything was acceptable for breeding, we waited for the right time.

Willow decided to take all of February, coming in on Feb 20th and becoming receptive at the end of Feb 28th. Bandit and Willow hit it off immediately, they spent a lot of time romping and rolling and rough housing. Enzo was not the biggest fan but he tolerated the new usurper 😆

The first few days of March there were a few successful matings. The next step on the schedule is to get a progesterone test to verify if we hit the mark or are were too early. Until next time!
